Gen IV reactors using uranium filtered from sea-water are the only option we currently know of that is able to provide a European standard of energy consumption for the next several thousand years for the whole planet.
And this without a long-therm impact on the environment. (transmutated waste only needs to be stored around 500 years, and the reactors are physically incapable of meltdowns.)
