"A mental disorder, also called a mental illness[3] or psychiatric disorder, is a behavioral or mental pattern that causes significant distress or impairment of personal functioning."
I know it's just Wikipedia and there are better definitions out there, but it delivers what is meant
also, regarding "[...] causes significant distress or impairment of personal functioning", the suicide statistics especially for trans people speak for themselves it seems

Yes lefties have to cope in a bunch of retarded ways. Transgender folk severally reinforce the fact that gender has strong biological “pressures” (I can’t think of a better word). Despite socially treated as a gender they want to be the opposite gender and it seems to have some sort of biological reasoning behind this want. Brain scans show their brains are more similar to the opposite gender too. If gender has no biological meaning behind it then there would be basically zero transgender people unless special circumstances. As of right now 1% or something which is a huge number are transgender. It also reinforces the importance of gender role behavior since these transgender folk are very suicidal. Right wing people should be pro transgender if anything. They are people with mental disorders and the best treatment is transitioning.

Hmmm ...if it leads to them permanently disfiguring themselves or others then yes; otherwise as long as they are "happy" they are just weird.

that's why I mentioned the suicide statistics for trans people, which are high even after transitioning
then again, you could argue it's society that puts so much pressure on them for them to decide to kill themselves, which I don't reject but doubt
in essence, I think it would be fair to call it a mental illness if all the distress' origin was internal, not external (i.e. society's fault etc.)

mostly, the non binary people don't denounce the genders per se, but simply don't want to place themselves anywhere in this "construct"

after transitioning suicidal rates went down for transgender people. the one study you are thinking about didnt take into consideration factors such as severity of gender dysphoria. more studies that did take this account have shown lower suicidal rates and better quality of life. i can link them to you if you want. there is a whole meta analysis on this.

also the article I was talking about about the suicide (attempt) statistics did mention that the rates are lower after transitioning, but still significantly higher than average
