Why does music sound good to our ears? Scientifically speaking, why do I perceive some sounds as music and other sounds as random noise?

From a biological perspective though, why does my brain care that some noises have certain features and others don't? Why does it perceive sounds with these features as pleasant? I'm curious about psychological/cognitive as well as evolutionary perspectives in particular

This should be obvious but I didn't figure it out until I spent a few months getting into synthesizer circuits: You need to connect things to a step sequencer or keyboard if you want music. Without that its nothing but droning buzzing sounds. It's not music until you modulate those sounds into a repeating sequence of notes.

Because some sounds are associated with something you liked as a kid. Making your brain enjoy everything that it sees similar patterns in. By listening to more of this sounds you keep building positive/negative pattern associations in your brain and forming a taste

Birds are the only animals I know that sing. Probably because we associated birds with warning of predators back when our ancestors lived in Africa. The morning doves also produce very nice music in the African Bush, probably a morning call. So we learn to associate birds with warnings, wake up calls like the guinea fowl and what would become the chicken back in India. The Khoisan are really good at imitating animal sounds when story telling.

Well a guitar is a very expressive instrument and sounds quite vocal in its intonation and range. Melody is an analogue for spoken human intonation, or the sound of crying, or the sound of shouting. Rhythm is biological, like your pulse or the sound of clapping cheeks. Music just plays around with all of these associations and gets people emotionally riled up for no good reason, i.e. the cringe lords in a mosh pit who are all aggressive and combative but live completely pedestrian, anodyne lives. Music is about social signalling and also this compensatory role of giving disempowered males a sense of power (which is why aforementioned metal fans listen to powerful metal music) whereas club brahs who are sexually successful will listen to music which is moreorless just a beat i.e. the sound of clapping cheeks

we like symmetry, sinusoidal waves, golden ratio, repeating patterns, fractal structures, complementary colors etc.

From purely evolutionary standpoint I'd say that music is a good indicator of absence of danger. For example a beautiful song bird indicates that there are no predators around (at visible and not hidden).

In songbirds, the amygdala responds to hearing pleasant bird songs. Similar phenomena occurs when humans listen to human music. If I had to guess, I would imagine that music developed as a side effect of amygdala development, which probably occured due to humans being social creatures.

This could help explain why monkeys, elephants, and dogs respond well to music, compared to cats for example. Elephants are so emotionally developed as to mourn for their dead.
