Let's suppouse that a group of people wants to politically eliminate/get rid of another group of people (get rid of the opposition that could take away their power) and they do it successfully.

Is it possible that the group of people who won could later in time divide itself again for political reasons and one of those two groups could again eliminate/get rid of the opposition and so on and so on?

Is there a study about this behavior in humans or is it very unlikely that this scenario happens more than two times?
