Not only are lectures by actual experts my favorite way to learn, they are objectively the best. Basically half of my research program comes from little asides when profs mentioned stuff they thought was interesting yet wasn't in the book.

Basically, kiss profs' ass to get a degree, I don't see any other reason. Other methods would be more effective, but, hey, what would those professors do then? It's about profit, bloated egos and controlling people's destiny because you can.
