She takes a very pragmatic view of physics that i agree with. The universe doesn't have to be some beautiful thing that arises. It doesn't have to be anything at all. Physics at it's core is trying to find a good representation of reality. Why deal with muh waves muh hilbert space muh functionals? Well because everything starts a philosophical question anyways

She's right, but I also think Eric Weinstein makes valid points, and I think Einstein would have (partly) agreed with him. At some point you have to stop and accept that reality is what it is, but there has been a pattern of identifying deeper and deeper levels of symmetries and emergence on different scales.

It makes sense that there may be some simpler rules/initial conditions which emerge into the standard model etc. They don't have to be there and may not be there, but they should be doggedly pursued to the greatest extent possible.
