If there was a lot of fanfare around something that really mattered then all the right things would fall into place the right way at least for the one event and that's not allowed to happen. Everything has to be unfair in the right ways or its all wrong.

Genetics and sexual reproduction give you enough random variability to ensure that the generations that will follow after you have a chance at adopting and surviving if their traits happen to be beneficial. This is an automatic process as well, any diversion to transhumanism will firstly kill human creativity, then the species itself, as we stagnate with an immortal group of individuals who have no better claim to eternity than just happened to be around when it became possible.
Creation of unique and different people each generation is also vital for replenishing the creative forces of society, if we stay around with what we have, we will end effective progress as well.
This is what these obsessive loons miss with their desire to put everyone into computers.

Good points, but I don't see why we'd stagnate if we were eternal. We'd have the universe to explore and instead of new generations, new explorations could inspire our creativity.
