Distillation. If you want to be extremely autistic about it you could also use a paired electrolyzer and fuel cell setup.

Sea water is full of drugs (legal and illegal), metabolites of these, pesticides, industrial waste, sewage and more. I wonder how much of that gunk passes through the membrane when you run sea water through reverse osmosis.

I would feel safer starting with rain water.

Probably reverse osmosis. I'm not sure that distillation will work for drugs residues a they could be pretty volatile.

a bleaching agent might work. idk what the minimum working concentration is, but sulphuric acid + h2o2 will carbonize just about anything

salt builds up, erosion, rust, needs a lot of maintenance, expensive, waste, uses a lot of electricity, etc. it's only used when it's the only option (gulf countries for example)
