I understand that the circuit above cannot work because the chemical reaction that produces the electrode potential doesn't take place if the electrodes that close the circuit aren't from the same cell.

But can someone explain to me why the below circuit wouldn't work? The AC voltage sources are supposed to be alternators. I guess the answer is related to electromagnetism.
