Facial symmetry is a proxy for developemental stability/fitness, it makes sense for it to be vulnerable to newly arisinig deleterious mutation. Think of it like phisical health.
Two healthy individuals have a baby, the baby will most likely be healthy himself but there is a possibility of he having some genetic disease. Natural selection in that case will drastically decrease his probabilities of reproducing and the population will stay healthy.
Same thing for attractivness: if everyone in a population is attractive still some unattractive babies will be born and because of sexual selection they will fail to reproduce so, generation after generation, the population will remain attractive.
