First solve (14-26) for v $A_ov_o/A = v$
Substitute (14-26) into (14-27) $A_o^2v_o^2/A^2 = v^2_0 + 2gh$
Solve for v0, which first yields $A_o^2v_o^2-A^2v^2_0 = 2ghA^2 -> (A^2_o-A^2)v^2_0 = 2ghA^2$
$v^2_0 = 2ghA^2/(A_o^2-A^2)$
Extract the root which gives:
$v = sqrt(2ghA^2/(A_o^2-A^2))$
