There is such a thing as the number 14, whether humans ever learn to count that high or not. Whether or not we have symbols for it.
There is such a thing as the ideal dishwasher, given x constraints, whether or not someone ever designs it.
If someone designed the perfect dishwasher, the fact that that design is the best design for a dishwasher exists independently of whether a human ever discovered/invented that kind of dishwasher. Whether or not we invent a thing to do something or not, the fact that that thing does something is true. And so in the sense that numbers are discovered, so are machines and other systems.
