So I’ve been reading into solar sails and a lot of studies max out at 0.04au ( 6million km from the sun) , at this range depending on how good your sail is you can reach from 3-5% light speed, from what I understand though, the only reason why this is number of 0.04au is chosen for studies is simply because this is as closed as the parks solar probe will go, but the problem is the probe was originally designed to go as close as 0.02au TWICE as close, what’s the theoretical limit to how close we can go ? 0.01au surely, but what about 0.005 au? What is the maximum limit with current or near future technology?
