Anon it's not that, my portfolio is great. My father is an entrepreneur and he helped me get everything right. Literally no one wants my skill set.

alright... are you tailoring your resume and cover letter to every position? does your resume have any dumb typos or mistakes? did you put inappropriate shit on there like stuff from high school? did you address your cover letter "to whom it may concern"? (you shouldn't do this). Is it too many pages long? is your resume in a format that the HR's auto-screening program can read?

you can't, really, because the entire economy is a hoax. your mathematical thinking probably gave you some intuition on that, which is why it looks so bleak. whereas most people obliviously think they're adding value. i suggest spending a few weeks adding some financial mathematics buzzwords to your resume and applying for quant roles, or just become a reclusive NEET like everyone else here

Anon, I can tell you're really worried. A word of advice, don't make the same mistakes as me. I've literally spent weeks and weeks on my resumes making each one perfect before I send them in.
Change your major. I wish I could have. I might have to go back to school a retrain. Or work for my dad's business, which I haven't wanted to do.

Did you actually enjoy studying pure math? If you just wanted a job you should have done something else. You only major in pure math if you are willing to sacrifice everything in exchange to be able to think about what you love everyday.

Education != good job. $40K > $0. It's impressive that you have a math Ph.D. You are one of a few thousand people in the world that can do something like that. However, it's stupid to think that you should automatically land a high paying job just because you can school better than most people. Also, you would be surprised by how quickly work experience multiplies itself. You may start at $40K but if you network well and do a good job you can either move up at a different firm or gain promotions at where you start. Also some pro-advice: don't brag or mention you Ph.D once you start working. People will find out and be more impressed than if you let other people know you are smart and they are dumb. Industry is about the exact opposite of academia so there is a whole new set of rules to learn. Good luck.
