All these 2+2=5 twitter morons are getting me down. What' the state of scientific research outside of the West, like in China, India, and other Asian countries? What areas of research are big in these nations?

China overtook the US in number of publications per year a few years ago I think

They are studying literally everything.

However, they also have the highest number of retractions and straight up academic fraud.

Japan Korea and India are doing well.
USA gave up on creating Breeder Reactors but India didn't

For context, Breeder Reactors are special nuclear plants that can recycle nuclear waste back. In theory, it can turn Nuclear Power into a true green energy. USA gave up because of lack of progress and uranium got cheaper.

Also, they are doing research on Thorium nuclear plants.

I fuckin hope those bastards reclaim their lost title in mathematics.

they are getting better in physics tho, I used to reject a lot of chinese papers as a referee, now most are at least decently written and have some results

Asian academic culture is all about throughput not quality. All the people that I know that went to Japan complain about how the research done there is a lot of garbage to present to someone above them hierarchically as it looks like they have put more work than on one good project.
Even then there is plenty of bright minds in Asia and definetly a lot of breakthroughs are going to come from there, you just need to learn how to navigate through the piles of shit they produce

China is extremely competitive in scientific field right now. They will surpass the US in the next few years in terms of actual number of inventions/output per year, not just science papers and shit.

India is competitive but afaik, not as much as China.

SK is extremely competitive. Japan is competitive.

SEA areas are meh.
