For instance, i got into 5 really prestigious schools no nepotism, but i also got into a mid tier school without even turning in an application, a department chair called me and told me one of my recommenders told him about me. The chair said if you want you are welcome to come to our program we will open a spot for you, he then sent me a letter.
I decline obviously because i got into the way more prestigious schools no nepotism.
