I negotiated with them to "start" on $65k, I had initially joined as a casual lab tech and even when accounting for casual loading they were asking me to take a paycut going down to 55k.
I work with a PhD who is on 80k, I'm (bachelors) on 75k. It's all about that hustle and asking for more, some of the other engineers are still on 65k having started around the same time as me.
