Another gay thing is that the outbreak and quarantine have been politicized, and in weird ways. Initially one side downplayed the threat of the virus and called a travel ban from highly infected countries racist and xenophobic. Then they attacked conservative protests, then they defended non-conservative protests while saying every corona death was the personal responsibility of the man who initiated the racist travel ban to prevent deaths months ago. Hell people worried about pandemics before all of this have been demonized as conservatard conspiracy nuts for years by broad swathes of society. I'm not saying the "right" 's response has been good either to be fair, it's been largely bullshit posturing from all sides.
