I didn’t really care about this issue until about two weeks ago. Which is when I realized that if light can’t be both a particle and a wave, that means I’ll end up as a quadripeligic, blind, drooling, cancer stricken mess until the heat death of the universe.

It's fairly simple. At every instant the universe forks off into trillions of trillions of new universes. In any given one of them your particle has a definite position. But if you average over the universes it looks like the particle has spread out like a wave.

I think that world governments need to do a massive study about whether or not the Copenhagen interpretation is correct. This is the most important issue of all time.

If they conclude that many worlds is incorrect, then everybody on earth needs to be sterilized. Not having kids is the only way to save people from infinite misery.

I think you have a philosophical misconception. That there is an spirit moving through time experiencing things one after another. But this may be an illusion. It may be that the spirit exists outside of time, and experiences every moment in isolation separate from its future and past.

end up in a state of huge misery.

We’d ultimately end up in a universe where we’re the only person to survive human extinction anyway. So there eventually won’t even be another person to give us medicine that’ll provide minimal relief.

An infinitesimal % of universes would have humans who are thousands of years olds. The odds are very much against us being in such a universe.

Note that when you’re thousands, millions or billions of years old, the second oldest person in the universe will still only be 120ish. Maybe 130ish if medicine advances. It’ll be a perfectly normal universe except for your ridiculously long and miserable existence.

Not only true but highly relevant. In fact so many improbably events have happened lately, it's highly likely that in most universes, the human race has already been wiped out and we're in a low probability timeline.

1. USA elected a president from completely outside the political class. That's completely unprecedented.

2. It was an Electoral College reversal. Very rare.

3. Cubs won the world series that same year. First time in a century.

I think the Great Filter is approaching for all of us.

For all that’s really worth considering, the OP is correct about how old you’d be relative to everybody else.

Theoretically, you could end up in a universe where both you and somebody else are a billion years old. In fact, that would happen in an infinite number of universes under many worlds. Since under many worlds any theoretically possible event happens an infinite number of times.

However, that would happen in such a small proportion of universes it’s barely even worth considering. Generally, even in a universe where you live to one billion, the rest of the universe should follow a normal age distribution. Which even with tremendous medical advances would probably mean the second oldest person in the universe would be under 150.

Granted, the likelihood of two people living to a billion is less than the likelihood of one person doing it. But the likelihood of YOU living to a billion is far less than the likelihood of someone else living to a billion. OP is concerned about such a fringe case that it's ridiculous.

It was my understanding that the worlds are entirely separate. So your particular consciousness, if you're in a universe where you die at a normal age, doesn't go anywhere. A version of you who is in a billion-year universe gets to live that long.
