Hello /sci/,

I've taken all the most common vaccines so far, so I'm not your typical antivaxxer.

My question is: it apparently takes 10 years to develop a proper vaccine, so why should I trust the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine, whose development started around this year?

if there's any vaccine that it's okay not to trust it's this one. however, if you're an at-risk individual, you're better off risking any possible side effects from the vaccine than from the disease. especially because any side effects must be small if they haven't been observed yet.

No it didn't. This is a ruse. It's already made and tested OBVIOUSLY. How else do you explain a 10 year development cycle compressed to 6 or 8 months?

This is technically correct. Governments are funding the production of large batches of vaccine candidates so they can be ready for deployment should they prove to be safe and effective.

Given the nature of the recent vaccines and how widely they're being tested, I doubt they have some crazy side effect. Vaccines aren't exactly black magic.

because a worldwide blunder, which would crash the entire economy without recovery is an extremely unwanted effect so they are working towards an effective vaccine as fast as they can.

truth to be told, we've never had to worry about a pandemic originating from a non influenza virus so we're kinda out of the comfort zone.

as long as they manage the ADE properly, it's gonna be allright

There are a bunch of different types of vaccines. There are more guaranteed types that can be pumped out really quickly but are less effective.

Corona vaccines already have a problem with ADE (a virus sets up the immune system to get better infectivity on the second, slightly different, infection). SARS, MERS, and Covid (SARS-2) have evolved to really exploit this, and apparently sometimes get ADE in the same infection.
