I know after the Fukushima disaster, Japan took a lot of their nuclear power generation offline. Did they ever decide to bring it back? There seemed to be a lot of political debate last I heard.

IT ISN'T OVER. For 9 years Japan has been running water over the melted-down nuclear fuel somewhere under the plants that blew. Even with recycling the amount of tritium-contaminated water is huge. They've been storing it since 2011, and expect to run out of space in 2022.
Now they want to dump it in the sea. Thanks Fukushima.

I've solved the major part of clwaning up the Fukushima plant. See the attached picture.

So they build one of these along with 2 piers at the plant. The crane uses high powered cameras and a hydraulic powered scoop/bucket to chomp up the reactor. Then it moves down the piers and deposits the rubble into an oil tanker/bulk freighter full of water. Reacting until the building is torn down and safely contained. Then the bulk freighters are taken out to sea. Filled with cement, and sunk to the bottom of the Mariana trench. Where the radiation is contained and any trickles of radiation doesn't contaminate the human food chain.
