How is this supposed to create a student body that practices collaborative learning?
It's literally in my interest to sabotage people around me, and it's currently stopping me sharing a useful resources because I'm on the borderline of passing and don't want to drag other peoples' marks up. This is so fucked.
For real, I've head nightmare stories about a very prominent figure's relative hiding the relevant books from the library prior to assignments, before the internet was prominent, and then charming the most successful students into helping them with assessments, thus giving them a massive edge. Which is hilarious Chad behaviour, but holy fuck what a malicious incentive structure. Professors and future professors: Don't do this.
