literally wrote a respected textbook on superstring theory. also he was one of the founders of string field theory. but he got a pretty shit job after. city college used to be OK in the 50s and 60s but by the time Michio got his job it was a meme. no good students worth mentioning and no wonder he turned to textbook writing and then laymen book writing and ultimately laymen crap

I met him when I was a kid and it wasn't a pleasant experience. He was going on and on about measuring civilizations by energy consumption. He said type 1 is consuming energy of the home planet, type 2 is consuming energy of the home star, and type 3 is consuming energy from a whole galaxy. He said that's the limit, but I went up to him and said "But professor you're wrong, there's a type 4". He told me to go play in traffic. I was taken by surprise but corrected him and said that type 4 was the continuum. He is an awful man.
