I got stuck under water once and by the time I was about to lose my breathe I experienced the worst 10 seconds of my life. Horrible anxiety, terrible feeling of suffucating and spasms, feeling of cold water, but after that all the bad feelings went away, I was just staring around in the water for a long time until I whited out and wake up on the shore. Someone had wiggled me loose and pulled me onto land.
Does the brain just stop the suffering when it realize it has no point?
