The average high school graduation rate:
>only 85% of people graduate high school, even less in *just* 4 years.
The average college graduation rate:
>41% get through undergrad in 4 years
>only 60% within 6 years
It's obvious that school, especially higher education, is not for everyone; in fact, when you consider how many people *actually* benefit from college, only maybe 20% of the population should really go to college.
Let's dispel with the fantasy that education helps people: not everyone is willing or capable of learning things at a high or even mediocre level, and honestly, not everyone needs to or should. An academic setting is not the best place for a lot of people to learn useful things.
In conclusion:
>education past middle school should not be required
>education through middle school should be reformed/revamped to better prepare students for life
>apprenticeships should make a resurgence to give those who don't want to continue in education a way to learn complex tasks/skills
>the entry-level working age should be lowered to 14
Thoughts? My solutions aren't perfect, but I believe my conclusions are valid and should be taken seriously.
Education is not for "normal people." It never has been throughout history, and I think we see now that was for good reason.
