In all these UFO threads everyone assumes faster than light ability is needed to travel to other solar systems. What about 0.999c? inb4 "hurr durr it takes too long then". You all seem to keep forgetting about time dilation at those speeds. Also obviously an interstellar astronaut would devote decades of his life to visit other places. There are plenty of careers right now where one can spend 10 years on a single project, so why not 40 years?

This is not even considering generation ship ability, which is surely attainable for an "almost speed of light" civilization. No, you do not need FTL capability to visit other solar systems.
