Literally a high school kid wrote this. Statistician isn't accounting, a stats PhD is just a math PhD. Getting a masters in any STEM field is just mechanically following rules, the PhD level is where you get creative with solving problems.

'rona has slowed it down a bit, but it's still pretty good. Starting pay is around $65-90k (depending on location and field). AMA I am a Data Scientist (classically trained statistician) that has hired four other team members since November last year. I worked in other industries as either a data analyst /statistician before pivoting into data science.

I have worked with some actuaries. That job seems like it truly blows.I didn't like the testing aspect either nor the portability of the credentialing. It seems like you do get locked into one specific profession.

Yep. Like I told another anon in the thread earlier, we will throw away your resume if you do not have at least a MS in stats or cs. It's not worth our time to figure out what you know. With those two degrees we have a baseline understanding of your knowledge.

Oh there is plenty of need for it. Just open a JASA journal and you'll see plenty of real analysis, and open a JCGS journal to lots of numerical analysis and computational linear algebra.

Here are two paper I recommend (it's general and not mathematical) about the two cultures in our field. IMHO it should be required reading for those starting out in our field.

For stats only? SQL is your bread-and-butter. Then it's either SAS, R, Python, and UNIX commands depending on your field. Moreover, depending on your role C/C++ creeps up in "data science" roles at times. It really just depends on what your shop is working on (i.e. pharma and CROs are still pretty much SAS shops).
