What's the point in searching for quantum gravity?

Why can't physicists accept that gravity behaves different from quantum mechanics? Not every force needs to be quantized. The whole trickery with "spontaneous symmetry breaking" was already ugly and embarrassing enough. I don't see the point in forcing gravity into the formalism of QFT even though it obviously doesn't behave like any of the stuff in the standard model. Also physicist still can't explain why particles have mass. So maybe fix this first?
