>>11946154Her mentality isn't the average anymore,
The mask thing is more complicated than religious dogma turning people off from mask use
There was a lot of misinformation during the initial outbreak regarding whether mask use was ok or not, couple with an aggressive lockdown when the pandemic was in it's infancy that turned part of public trust in the response off, media underhyped initially, then overhyped the severity of the disease once it took off in New York, and governors fearing anger from the public, quickly rushed lockdowns without considering pushing mask use campaigns, hand washing campaigns, and social distancing campaigns
They used law enforcement to force these orders, which turned a lot of conservatives against the lockdowns, given lockdowns are in a constitutionally gray area, liberals are more minded to being open to communal changes, whereas conservatives absolutely want nothing to do with the government forcing them to do things
A lot of people lost their jobs due to the poorly planned lockdown, which has caused a lot of animosity from boths sides
States started reopening when the economy started unfolding, to prevent an outright economic collapse, and enacted forced mask use, liberals, who were already ok with the lockdowns, were ok with this policy, conservatives who were anti-lockdown, were against it, and due to the poor initial response, lost trust in any further policy on the virus, and even disregard the virus all together on the extreme, mask use has essentially become a partisan icon of how you view government overreach lmao, which is crazy because masks work
tldr The government failed their initial response and should have followed Japan/Korea/Swedens examples, now people have politicized mask use
