WHY THE FUCK WOULD FUNKING KUNT MATHEMATICIANS USE THE same symbol (well, an extremely similar symbol) for both lowercase alpha and "is proportional to"?
Now that I've cooled down a bit, apparently it's the work of an autist who (from what I gather) was into Hebrew and wrote in English.
Did people use a lot of Greek letters in math back then?
