>>11945320When I realized I am highly gifted in the subject. Currently a PhD student supervised by a leading mathematician based on a recommendation from my professor, not too dissimilar to John Nash's one liner recommendation letter, mind you.
But I'm extremely low-key (my biggest inspiration is Perelman). I will make great achievements, that much is certain, but to what extent do I want to be lauded as a world-class mathematician? Not in the slightest. I'm quite comfortable with being just a blip in history. I love the beauty and rigor of mathematics and I do it for myself.
