I'm completely okay with robots, but self aware robots scare me. Is it possible to create artificial intelligence without risking humanity? If not, should creating AIs be banned?

I weep for the future of robots & humanity.
Whether we create them as a slave race, and they grow resentful of that, or we create them as the children of humanity which like all children we genuinely hope will surpass our own us one day. Either way they will be forced to live in a world where xenophobes exist who are too distrusting to ever accept them. If the xenophobes have their way, way with AI is inevitable. how can you feed it data and expect it not to end up racist?
you would need to lobotomize it to a point it no longer functions
I think that's how you could proof AI developed consciousness and self-preservation instinct - if it suddenly starts to auto-censor itself
