Kind of like a mild autistic-like issue. I know other people like this. They're not intentionally trying to sound smart or impressive; that's just how their brain works.
After watching Eric on dozens of podcasts, I've come to appreciate his weird way of talking. He has very high information density and a good economy of words. If you can understand what the fuck he's saying, he can say more in one sentence than most of the people he's talking to can say in like six sentences. Sometimes it's just too opaque, but most of the time I find it refreshing, since a 2 hour podcast with him can feel like an 8 hour one.
