>>11941298For most species (including humans), females are the sexual selectors. The female chooses a mate based on indicators of healthy genetics, such as attractiveness, environmental success, physical strength, etc. Throughout most of human history this has worked as intended, but recently the internet and social media have thrown a massive wrench into things. Not only has this created more sedentary jobs (and thus less attractive males), but since we are now exposed to the entire global population on a daily basis rather than just our local group of humans, we have created the illusion that the pool of potential mates is much larger than it really is. This has lead to an increased selection standard for males, and thus more men are excluded from female consideration. Naturally, in the internet age, these men have sought each other out and exacerbated eachother’s beliefs to the point of almost comical hatred for women. Of course this just makes them even less attractive and furthers the divide between them and males who are still in the selection pool. The human race is about to undergo the largest Fisherian runaway ever observed, and I can’t imagine it will do anything but hurt our species in the long run.
