Paturina?

I work for a company that machines various things. We have large aggregate tanks for recycling water, and they need to be pumped out yearly. For years now, the plant manager has referred to the sediment in the tanks as "paturina" (patch-or-eena) a word I have never heard used before. I finally got to Googling it, and can't find any references.

Bear in mind this man is somewhat of an idiot... but still, he's been using this word for 20+ years and nobody has ever questioned it. Obviously he heard this word somewhere, or misheard it. Any ideas? Can someone solve this mystery for me?
