What do you mean, "using gravity"? Like, dropping heavy stuff and recuperating the energy? You would have to lift it first.

I think the idea is that if we were able to manipulate gravity, we could force objects to "fall" in any direction we want.
I imagine there's probably some catch that prevents it from being a source of infinite energy.

Yes you can manipulate gravity by moving mass. This requires moving more mass than would be attracted towards it, so no energy can be gained. You can gain energy by exploring gravitational potential which already exists.

Yeah but the water still needs to evaporate at some point, otherwise you'd have no water flowing to your barrage. That's the cycle of water, or whatever Americans call it. That's what gives the water its potential energy.

That fusion process is not free energy, it spends fuel (hydrogen) that eventually gets exhausted as the star ends its main sequence life cycle.
So the sun is basically spending the energy stored in hydrogen.

There's so much hydrogen in space that you could consider it infinite, but it's still not free energy.
