write down how good you can withstand the
rigors of the program but also stake their
reputation that you can do it. Research
and other academic experiences back up the
work that you would do if you're accepted.
This is why colleges focus heavily on that and
your essay than the GRE (often, they don't).
In some colleges with both undergrad and grad
programs, they would accept their own to the
grad program first, like pic related. And usually,
reputed and cited professors get looked at more
than a literal who anytime, if you're lucky.
And, like others are saying here, it's a form of
quality control which benefits the standing of
the college other than the money that flows
to them ever so often.
