Hereditary traits

If a man or woman devoted a big portion of their life to a specific subject/skill, would the competence they have gained be passed onto their children genetically (if we assume that they have children with a person who has also spent a significant amount of time on that subject/skill and they have kids after they have gained a certain level of competence). Or is the desire to pursue that subject/skill in the first place genetic meaning that the people who never pursued that subject/skill didn't have it in them genetically. and thus never had any desire/interest?
