>>11926569I forgot where I saw it, but there was this hypothesis that I think holds a lot of ground is that when there's a huge breakthrough in technology, technological development spikes for a while, especially in the part that had a breakthrough and it eventually dips back down. The most recent one was computers and the one before would've likely been electricity and/or sophisticated machinery.
Problem is with today though is that all of this fucking political shit and infighting in academia nowadays combined with a chronic lack of innovation is making it much harder to find a breakthrough in anything substantial.
