this math course is objectively demonstrably wrong, at a local max/min a function isnt increasing or decreasing granted that it's derivative is continuous and rational. or is my answer truly wrong?

Well, lets see. This is the sine function, its derivative is cosine. From -pi to pi, cosine has zeroes at -pi/2 and pi/2, so yes, the class is wrong.

You wrong. Don't include critical points when listing the intervals when a function is increasing or decreasing. A function f is increasing if f'>0, and decreasing f'<0, at the critical point f'=0.

if critical points are not to be included then the math course shouldnt be asking about the intervals of increasing/decreasing when the answer would possibly include a critical point, such as this case, right?

...? This happens. Sometimes, the math prof fucks up, the textbook is wrong or the software is messed up. What matters is making a correction.

Critical points that are local min/max are not included in the increasing/decreasing intervals.

what did i answer? i answered in a way that excludes the critical points from being on the decreasing interval. they said that was wrong and their "correct answer" includes the critical points. look closely at the picture.
