I was just researching how memories are encoded and recalled today and aside from science knowing what brain structures are involved and that neurotransmitters, electricity, and neurons are involved, everything else is wejustdontknowbird.gif. like fuck, this shouldn't be that hard given the technology available. Didnt we stick electrodes in a cats brain and decode the information its eyes were sending to its brain like 20 years ago?

It's about research funding. Most of the funding in neuroscience goes to neurological disease research and career scientists who spew out a hundred identical articles of the same topic. Fundamental research gets only the scraps.
