For all intents and purposes, rivers are perpetual motion machines that have no negative impact on environment, why do we not utilise their energy of motion and convert it into useful energy ?

So there are ways you can fuck up like the sediment buildup at the three gorges dam which flooded 121+ cities in China. But, if you place a dam correctly, it's great. Fuck the fish, give em a salmon ladder and you are good to go.
