Does it ever end? What is the smallest thing in the universe? Is there evidence that there is a smallest thing or do we not posses the tools to know yet?

electrons and quarks are thought to be fundamental, although I'm reserving the right to say that might not always be the case. we simply can't know anything beyond this with current tech.

Electrons aren't made of quarks, they're as fundamental as quarks.
They're both probably fundamental, just look for arguments against preons. It all comes down to naturality.

the higgs boson is a particle that comes from the existence of the higgs field. the higgs field interacts with gauge bosons to "give them mass" in the sense that through their interactions with the higgs field they take on a mass.
