Light eyes means melanin in the iris wasnt needed for our ancestors to reproduce.
It is a benign mutation.
If we look at animals eyes, we will see a vast array of colors. Perhaps some fill a niche.
An observation however, is that dogs bred in the snow(huskies) often have very light eyes.
Another observation, a similar species bred in the snow(the polar bear) has pitch black eyes.
Conclusion: Benign, random mutations.
We all know that after enough mutations, species will diverge. You cannot tell me I am the same species as an aboriginal, it would be preposterous.
