Two things come to my mind, although they are fairly broad:

Engineer - Someone able to design and implement systems that solve practical problems, using known principles and available resources.
Of course, it may need craftsmen to build these.
Discoverer - Someone curious enough to experiment on new and existing principles to find out more about the universe as a whole.
Although their discovery aren't always practical, they can be used by Engineers to build better systems.

You could always use specific terms for specific fields if you need to narrow it down (Architects, Theoricians, Physicians, etc).

The orator one seems wrong to me.

An orator is generally judged by their ability to clearly convey ideas and convince others of their validity regardless of the background of the audience.

So an orator title would be more like:
Accurately teach people from blue collar, white collar, and wealthy backgrounds an idea and then convince them it is a good idea.
