By my calculations, assuming a radius of 8.5m the ring in the ship needs to spin at around 9m/s. Thats 10RPM. Surely Bowman would just tumble around?

Maybe I'm dumb, but isn't "tumbling" a result of spinning systems that are also affected by earth's gravity? Since the ship is in space, the only "gravity" they would feel is the spinning, so it should feel normal.

9 m/s is roughly 34 km/h. Doesn't seem very fast. You can walk around in trains going 200+ km/h or planes going 800 and you won't tumble around since your relative speed to them is 0.
The Expanse series describes a coriolis effect in spinning stations tho that gets stronger towards the center and sometimes causes nausea. I thought that was an interesting idea.

Here is my question to the thread. How is the rotating drum oriented within the Discovery? I assume it's either 1 or 2 in the diagram, and would like help deciding.

My sticking point is that both Pod bay and Bridge seem to be frontal-only areas, which is why I've inclined toward 1. However I think I saw some other convincing stuff/diagrams which suggested 2 instead. Now that I think about it, the ladder orientation shown in the film on both decks may lead to 2, and I may have just answered my own question.

pretty sure its n1 so that the axis of rotation is an extention of the main axis of the ship, anything else wouldnt be as stable
