Ask questions. Ask them why the believe that. They will get defensive. They will speak about "muh freedom to believe" acknowledge that, ask them why do they react like that. Get back to the original question and continue asking them.

Science has become very political. One reason for this is that it has started to fill the void once left by religion and religious power as the majority of the population has become agnostic or atheist. They can say something, and have it blindly believed as true, and control people in that manner, it inevitably corrupts an institution because the power hungry will seek to wield it much like they wielded religious power nefariously.

Everything is up for grabs. I know it's a meme, but there are no "facts" really. It's two movies on one screen all the way down.

To be fair, I do understand certain things like distrusting the CDC and WHO for giving wrong advice about masks initially, and there are certainly some scientists who say stupid and crazy shit, or who fail to accept nuance in controversial topics. In general, though, lots of people just trust their peers and absolutely no one else.

Yes, it actually is. Normalisation of non binary gender identification has an intrinsic effect on the social order and in fact further weakens both the imagined and experienced bonds between people. However, just to counter a bit, I think vaccines and 5G are pretty settled science in the sense that vaccines don't cause autism or other problems for nearly all recipients, and 5G obviously doesn't cause COVID-19. It's plausible that 5G could be harmful to health in other ways, but there's no evidence of that right now and no good proposed mechanisms of action - I agree people should be more open to the possibility than they are, but at this time there's no reason to be concerned by it. And it's true that new vaccines should be tested very widely before they should be trusted, because a new and untested vaccine could possibly carry risks (like unintentionally infecting certain people or causing an abnormal immune response) - but once they are tested on a lot of people, there's no reason to fear that vaccine.

And climate change is very complex and difficult to predict, but the idea that some people refuse to even accept something like industrialization leading to *any* average increase in global temperatures is pretty disheartening. Even if you don't think it's a big risk, I don't know how someone could at this point say human activity has had absolutely no effect on the average global temperatures.

Has society and "the nuclear family" collapsed since gay marriage was legalized? I guess /pol/ would say "yes", but most reasonable people would say "no". I'd argue that initiatives like these strengthen the nuclear family: you no longer have people living lies. Closeted people (in any kind of closet) are no longer pressured to hide their identities and get married to the opposite sex. Or at least, it's less common now. It just harms the kids and leaves everyone miserable. Why would you want people to be unhappy and miserable, putting on an act every day, just to conform to societal expectations? It actively hurts society and families.

I think anything that increases individual freedom is good, if it doesn't harm others, and letting people be freely gay or trans or non-binary or whatever doesn't harm anyone. Actively disallowing it is directly harmful, though, and additionally bubbles up in the form of other societal problems. Are some of them possibly going through a temporary phase due to some shit they read online? Sure, maybe. But it's not harming you. There is no conspiracy here.

I think the danger is the suppression of speech and disallowing any kind of nuance or questioning of claims, which comes from the activists, not the LGBT people themselves. Lots of them just want to live their lives and be left alone. The radically progressive activists promoting junk science and accusing any mild detractors as bigoted is a societal problem. LGBT people aren't.

Actually the problem is both more petty and more insidious than that. Every field of science has its own political struggles, but they're totally divorced from mainstream governmental politics. They're weird shit like adopting anti-scientific concepts and mainstreaming them and using them to shut out any dissenting information. There is a fuckload of politics and outright lying going on in modern """science""". A lot of it is ideological, but a lot of it is also profit or fame-motivated. You get fame for naming a fossil a different species than the rest of its species. You get fame for publishing some dumbass controversial shit with bad methodology and you get cash from alcohol companies by lumping ex-alcoholics with non-drinkers to "prove" that "moderate drinking" is """best""" for your health.

Science is fucking dead and it's because we didn't kill off our NPCs.

Replication crisis is a real thing. But that's a lot more than just disingenuous work. People are failable. Copying someone else's methods are hard.

But that's why I said consensus as a key phrase. There isn't a consensus on whether protein iJ-alpha can reduce presentation of the beta receptor complex only in lung cells. There is that iodine deficiency and lead in gas makes kids dumber.

The ones who cause the biggest problems in science are politicians and corporations that either suppress data they don't like or champion small preliminary studies without context. Ie. Exxon hiding climate studies in the 70's, leaded gas studies being repressed, EPA getting cucked by a coal lobbyist, sugar companies faking data, etc.

People should feel free to ask questions and learn but not all opinions were made equal. Because anyone can debate anything, thus making any subject "debatable". So we shouldn't shame people for, say, refusing to treat their child's completely preventable death because prayer is better than antibiotics? Or for thinking that all white people should be killed because they are a drain on society?

Encouraging skepticism is good, it helps is learn and understand. But people are not being skeptical, they are getting ideas and not critically evaluating them then through tribalism refuse to change their opinion using the guise of "skepticism". If people were actually skeptical I'd agree, but it's just another form of conformity through counter-culture. Kinda like how a hipster isn't actually counterculture because they still decide based on what the culture isn't doing.

Has society and the nuclear family collapsed? As a reasonable person, yes. Look at any trend in marriages and see how it is falling. Less people are getting married, more people report they have fewer children than they would like to have, people are having less sex, people are reporting to be more lonely, people are interacting less with real life people.

Everything has the potential to cause "harm". I don't understand how you can pretend to be in the know of anything when you use garbage terms like "harm".
If a person finds two men interacting with one another sexually to be viscerally disgusting, and you then bring about the conditions in which the society this person lives in starts to idolize such interactions you have caused that person harm. That person no longer feels welcome in that society.
I mean, your entire position hinges on your idiot phrase "harm". And your definition seems to be clear as day. If it "harms" your ingroup it's bad. If it doesn't its good. And like every libertarian-esque idiot you fail to account for your own in/ourgroup biases.

The answer to all three is politicians, not scientists not doctors (although some politicians have degrees). They staffed them with people that align with their interests and constrain their activities to what they care about.
