What cam profile gives a linear lift vs. rotation curve? Not an academic question. I am actually building something and need to know. Any of you geniuses tell me?

cam design is a dark art. If at all possible DON'T USE CAMS! Seriously, cams need to be machined to super high tolerances because small imperfections can cause higher order shocks. And yes cams should be designed with 4th order derivatives of position(jerk) and in some cases even higher.

Thanks. At least I now don't feel bad about not knowing the answer myself. However, this cam will be moving slowly. So slight imperfections are not going to be a problem.
