The easier way is to read it with someone else with higher experience in the field that asks stuff and you try to explain to them
If you succeed you understood the paper
If you fail then you didn't

First, be enrolled at Uni to get free access to several journals. Second, go to Google Scholar or Web of Science and look for topic you are interested in. Third, connect uni account and enjoy papers.

Alternatively, use scihub once you find a paper you want. Read the references to find other relevant information.

Pick an interesting paper and start slow. First read through it all in a quick skim. Then read it again and look up every word or concept you don't know and write the definition down. Every paragraph write a sentence summary of it in the margin. If this doesn't work pick one of the articles cited and work your way backwards until you can use this method and it makes sense.

To read books on medicine you have to take about 20 lessons of biochemistry.
To read physics and math you probably have to know some basics in them.
To read humanities, you should not.
