Psychiatry is perfectly fine in a general sense. Just many conditions don't have very good medications for them at this time, and some doctors use psychiatric medication as a crutch.
It's a very rough and crude science, but it's legit. How could it not be legit in at least an abstract sense? I'd link some posts defending it on Slate Star Codex, written by a psychiatrist, but sadly the blog's still down due to the NYT doxing thing.

Out of curiosity, how much have your symptoms abated? What kind of OCD do you have?
I've got some kind of weird inherited brain problem where I'll get what seems like temporarily bouts of OCD-like behavior, with compulsive rituals. It's often exacerbated by dopaminergics like caffeine and cannabis. I'm sure it's not nearly as severe as what you have, but just from my own limited experience, it really is a very shitty and taxing thing. I have to let myself "break/fail" the rituals and sit in the shitty feeling while trying to distract myself, else it just gets untenable.
